WHY BOVEDA STARTER KIT FOR GUITARS?

Play music, not the water method game! No more sponges, hoses or discs.

Boveda combines pure water and natural salts, sealing them inside a leak-proof membrane which only releases pure water vapor when it’s needed for humidification.

  • Eliminates the hassle (and danger) of 1-way humidification methods, which spike humidity then nosedive as the water evaporates
  • Nestles in and around your instrument
  • Adds and/or absorbs moisture slowly and precisely to achieve and maintain an RH level between 45% –55% in a guitar’s closed case

HOW BOVEDA PREVENTS GUITAR DAMAGE

Exposing a guitar to humidity fluctuations day after day, can throw off the instrument’s measured alignment and cause permanent damage to its physical makeup.

Storing a guitar in a stable environment created by Boveda:

  • Protects against cracking or warping
  • Betters the sound—reduces buzzing and dull tones
  • Keeps an instrument out of the repair shop

HOW LONG WILL BOVEDA LAST

Typically Boveda lasts between 2 to 6 months, based on case quality, time of year and climate.

Initially, Boveda has some catch-up work to do as it stabilizes the atmosphere inside a guitar case. Therefore, starter Boveda won't last as long as subsequent Boveda. Replace when the entire Boveda becomes rigid.

HOW TO USE BOVEDA IN A GUITAR CASE

  • Slip 2 unwrapped Boveda into each pouch holder. (DO NOT open the Boveda itself.)
  • Drape one pouch over the strings into the sound hole to really get into the body of the instrument.
  • Nestle the other pouch where it will not be crushed, underneath the headstock to control humidity near the headstock and fretboard. (DO NOT use Boveda without the pouch holders.)
  • Shut the case’s lid and keep it closed whether the guitar is in there or not.

ABS plastic or fiberglass case? Nothing else to do.

Wood case? Most wood guitar cases are made of twice as much wood as the actual guitars they hold. Wood is especially porous, which creates a volatile atmosphere inside a case. For best results, season a wood case with Boveda Case Seasoning before using a starter kit. Seasoning stabilizes the atmosphere to help Boveda work more efficiently.

Soft case or hard bag? Unlike a hard case, a soft instrument case or bag is made from materials that generally allow more air to pass through. While Boveda will still provide humidity control in a soft case or bag, the increased airflow will reduce the lifespan of Boveda.

NOTE: Within the same guitar case, do not mix different Boveda RH levels. Instead of creating a new “average” RH, the moisture will merely transfer back and forth between the Boveda. Do not use Boveda with other humidification products. They will fight against each other and reduce the efficiency of the Boveda.
